The 3D Secure system, created in 2001 by international issuers VISA and MASTERCARD, aims to strengthen the security of online payments.
After being successfully adopted by our European neighbours, the 3D Secure programme has been available for French transactions since 1 October 2008 and is currently being implemented for the majority of major French banks.
The advantages of the 3D Secure device
This involves applying additional control when you make online purchases by inviting you to enter an authentication code or personal data (which varies depending on the bank) in order to allow your bank to identify you and validate the transaction. This system therefore aims to reduce the risks of fraudulent use of your bank card because in the event of loss or theft, for example, your card would not be usable against you without entering the above identification details.
Concretely:
To pay for an order on www.papillonmode.com with 3D Secure:
Enter your bank card number, its expiry date and the last 3 digits of the cryptogram on the back of your card.
You will then be automatically redirected to your bank's secure page which asks you to enter an authentication code.
Once the code is validated, you will return to the store which will confirm the validation of the payment.
What is my 3D Secure authentication code?
The allocation of the 3D Secure authentication code varies depending on the bank. Some banks define one with you, others send you by SMS or through an electronic box that they provide, a code each time you make an online payment. Your authentication can also be done by entering your date of birth.
